The International Press Centre, ( IPC) Nigeria had mourned the death of the Executive Director of Liberian Media Centre, ( LMC), Lawrence Randall.
In tribute to Randall who died recently in the United States, Director of IPC, Lanre Arogundade noted that the deceased within a few years developed LMC to become a media institution reckoned with in Liberia and a West Africa.
The tribute posted on faceebook follows:
“The death of Lawrence Randall has been received with great sadness by myself, my family, the staff of International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos-Nigeria and Nigerian journalists.
“As pioneer Executive Director of Liberian Media Center (LMC), Lawrence visited IPC between 2004 and 2005 and spent about a week to understudy our work preparatory to the take off of LMC in Monrovia, Liberian capital. By the time I visited LMC in return to see how the knowledge had been applied and train his staff on media monitoring, I was amazed by the rapid development of LMC, which within few years would become a media institution to be reckoned with in Liberia and West Africa.
” In the process of working together Lawrence became a brother, friend and confidant. He calls me Oga Master and I call him ‘Young boss mi’. Only few days ago I posted another message on Lawrence’s wall praying again that the Almighty should lift him from the sick bed where he had been on life support for few months in the United States. Lawrence, stand up and walk again was our regular clarion call.
” Now the worse has happened and God knows best. Lawrence’s death though painful and devastating drives home the point again that it is not about how long but how well even as it underscores the vanity of this bitch of a life. Let us always do our best for humanity in any field of human endeavour that we may find ourselves because we never know what tomorrow has in stock for us.
” Not all of us alive today will see tomorrow. As a little tribute to the memory of Lawrence, we observed a minute’s silence and prayed for the repose of his soul this morning at the IPC conference hall in Lagos, shortly before the commencement of a media tweet conference/roundtable on transparency issues in the oil and gas sector and the role of the media organised by IPC with the support of US Consultae General in Lagos. Adieu the charming, positively aggressive and hardworking one. May God give your wife, young children colleagues and friends the fortitude to bear your irreparable loss.”
