The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Chapter, in collaboration with the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Nigeria (IBFIN), on Friday organised a sensitisation workshop for journalists in the state on the Fundamentals of Islamic Economy, Banking and Finance.

The Managing Director of the IBFIN, Alhaji Sani Aminu, said the aim of the one-day workshop was to enhance the knowledge of the journalists on the importance of non-interest banking in the country.

He said the purpose of choosing journalists to benefit from the training was due to their importance and contributions towards the development of the nation’s economy.

“When you educate a journalist, you educate the entire people because they are enlightening and educating and informing the general public.

Therefore, there is the need to tell them more about the service so that they inform the public that the non-interest banking is one of the best,” Aminu said.

According to him, the system is not only for the Muslims, but also the Christians, adding that it’s a great development that the non-Muslims are patronising the system more.

He said the IBFIN was more of research project and consultancy.

In his speech during the workshop, the Acting NUJ Chairman, Alhaji Umar Kurmawa, said the training would enhance the journalist’s knowledge on the importance of the non-interest Banking in Nigeria.

According to him, “many people do not know how beneficial the operational system is; it offers simple banking to everyone.

He urged the participants to use the knowledge acquired during the training to make a great impact on the general public. (NAN)
